Why Colombia?
In the case of Colombia, over half of the households experience difficulties in getting nutritious foods, 6 out of 10 women-led households live in food insecurity and there is at least 1 stunted child in every 10*, where minorities, such as indigenous and afro-Colombian populations, often result in the most affected.
Colombia’s scenario is also marked by the high prevalence of youth and unexpected pregnancies, which usually leads to severe consequences on women’s integral well-being, lack of schooling, and general instability in the most vulnerable populations in Colombia. This everyday reality enhances the perpetuating cycles of poverty and malnutrition in Colombia and is intensified by the country's high rates of forced displacement, as the country with the highest number of internal displacements in the world, with 8 million victims**.
The severity of Colombia’s social scenario is further accentuated by the country’s long history of internal conflict, sexual violence, the recent economic decline derived by the Covid-19 pandemic, and migration crises such as Venezuelan.
