Why Ghana
In the last two decades, the prevalence of stunting under 5 years in Ghana has reduced from 32.5% to 18.8% between 1993 to 2014 respectively. However, the prevalence of stunting in the Northern region remains high (33%). There is an inverse relationship between the stunting status of children and their mother’s educational status. Similarly, an inverse relationship exists between household income levels and the stunting status of children. Children from the poorest households are almost three times more like to suffer from stunting compared to their counterparts in the wealthiest family that is 25% vs 9% respectively. Moreover, children living in rural areas (22%) are more likely to be stunted compared to children living in urban areas (15%).
